Actually I typed this up earlier, but lost it. Now that the frustration has worn off, I'm gonna try it again.
Life can be so ironic sometimes. God has a strange way of making a point, and sometimes I just don't get it. But I guess that's why He's in charge.
Take this story about my late friend, Wayne. Wayne was in his middle to late forties when we met. He had several heart problems. He had also had multiple surgeries for these problems.So many, in fact that the doctors told him they could not do anymore surgery if he had another problem. Wayne was a devout Lutheran, but also an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and arrowhead hunt, although no one would risk taking him out on a trip. Enter my husband Steve. He found a kindred spirit in Wayne. He often took Wayne out to the rivers or creekbeds to hunt for "rocks." Steve was not worried that Wayne would collapse on him. He often joked with Wayne that he had no problem taking him out. If Wayne ever had a problem, he would go and get help, just as soon as he took all of his (and Wayne's) arrowheads home. It was this kind of attitude that brought them so close together. Wayne never did have a heart problem while out hunting. Ironically, they got themselves into (and out of) quite a bit of mischief. In his truck, Wayne was once even sucked into a tornado. All this, and the man had a fragile heart.
One day, however he visited the doctor for chest pain. Terrified at the thought of his heart giving out, Wayne prayed that the doctor would bring good news. The doctor came. His heart was fine. Nevertheless, his lungs needed further review. Upon extensive testing, the results revealed that Wayne had cancer. This man, God delivered through multiple heart surgeries, and various near death experiences now has cancer.What was He thinking?
A bit ironic,huh? Wayne fought it until the end. The only thing I could think was, " What an amazing witness to his faith!"
