Every morning I wait until time to open the blinds.
I welcome the sunlight through my window.
It promises a new day. A day that will come.
A day when we will be free from our isolation.
To breathe the fresh air in the outside world.
Everyday I escape, if only in my mind
to climb the tree outside my window and
swing from it's branches, to and fro, to and fro.
And in that moment there are no masks, no gloves.
And no sickness lives, in that moment.
We are holding hands again, sharing a meal, a warm embrace.
We are laughing again, playing games and cheering the home team.
The inevitable comes, once again, at day's end.
And the cloak is pulled
to cover my escape to sanity.
And I am plunged into darkness...
...once again...
... until the sun comes up.

On a Leash
What a fool I have become,
listening to your honey-dipped words,
and eating them up like
manna from heaven.
I thought you were the one,
different from the others.
All men lie, all men have an excuse,
you were going to change all that.
You kept me on a leash with your lies
so that I couldn't see
what was right in front of me,
close enough to keep your secrets hidden far from me.
Until the day one landed on my door step,
I would have never known about the wool
that was over my eyes. And the separate life
led far away from my perfect little world.
I wonder now what the truth was
now that I've caught you in so many lies.
And if any of it was even real
at least to you.
listening to your honey-dipped words,
and eating them up like
manna from heaven.
